O.k., so today I thought about how it is all about the small things in life. My day started with playing tennis with my mom...it didn't matter how good or bad we were and it didn't matter how long we played for. What mattered was the fact that I got to spend time with my mom - what mattered was the fact that we played together and laughed together and shared a fun time with each other.
After playing tennis and getting ready for the day - I went to work (which I chose to be happy about). The customers today reinforced the idea of the fact that it is about the small things. A lady that I helped came in without any hopes of finding anything because of the difficulties she had experienced in finding shoes in the past. The first pair of shoes I put on her feet, fit like a glove, they were exactly what she was looking for. She was so excited to have found a pair of shoes and to have found one so fast. What a simple thing, a pair of shoes, but it made her so happy and I was so happy to be a part of that. A little girl came in with her mom. A shoe store is not the most exciting place for a two or three year old, but she was so happy just to follow her mom around as she tried on different pairs of shoes, she was so excited to use the brandick device to measure her feet. Such small things, yet such great joy came from them. There was a man who I sold shoes to, and then he proceeded to hang around and talk to us for close to 2 hours. Simply talking with one another is such a small thing, yet it can bring such joy. He left smiling and saying how he looked forward to the next time he would come back.
After work, I went to one of my closest friends house. We talked and ate dinner, then we played some games. As we were about to eat our dinner she stopped me and said "wait, do you wanna do that prayer thing?" She is not a member of our church, but she knew that blessing the food was important to me. It was such a small thing for her to do, yet it meant the world to me and showed me how much she supports me in my beliefs and as a friend. When we were playing Taboo, her mom was making all sorts of funny actions to try and get people to guess the word...we laughed for a long time, and couldn't stop. We laughed so hard my stomach hurt. What a small thing but what happiness it brought.
In the end, it is all the small things that come together to make our days great. They are there, we just have to take the time to notice them and as we do we will be happier. Who doesn't want to be happy right? Look for those small things, the small things that bring so much joy to life - it's the small things that matter.
