Today I had the day off, thanks to my mommy! After last week it was a much needed break. I got to sleep in, ate lemon meringue pie for breakfast, layed out in the sun and swam for most of the day, took a nap, ate yummy food, watched fireworks(for memorial day)and then watched a movie : ) It was wonderful! I guess it doesn't take much to make me happy.
As I was laying outside this afternoon I read a couple of talks from this past General Conference. I want to share a story from one of them. It was Elder James B. Martino's talk entitled "All Things Work Together for Good". The story is about a young boy with a dram of becoming a baseball player and is as follows:
With the desire to become the next might ball player, he decided to go outside and practice. He held the baseball in one hand and the bat in the other, and he threw the ball into the air. With a wish to hit the ball as far as he could, he took a great swing, but the ball fell to the ground without even touching the wood of the bat. Not to be denied, he went at it again. As he was about to throw the ball in the air, his determination grew as the though of a powerful hit came into his mind. But alas, the results were the same. The ball lay on the ground. But as any good ballplayer knows, you have three strikes before you are out. He concentrated even more, threw the ball in the air, and gave the mightiest swing he has ever attempted. As the ball again fell the the ground, the tears began to swell in his eyes. Then all of the sudden a great smile appeared, and he said, "What a pitcher!" This story is a prefect example of the fact that it is all in how you look at things!!! We cannot control everything that happens in our lives. We can however control our perspective and how we choose to look at things. I can be upset and grumpy that I have to work, or I can be grateful that I have a job when so many do not right now. I can be upset that I have not gotten to spend that much time with my mom since I have been home, or I can be grateful for the time we have had and grateful that I will spend all next week with her in Aruba. Las Vegas has definitely not been easy for my family, but I am grateful that we moved here and I am grateful for everything that has happened here. I have learned and grown so much in ways that I may not have had I not had the experiences that I've have here.
Remember to find a way to look at the glass as half full, because it is!!! We are all so blessed, I know that I certainly am and that I need to e more grateful.
Living, loving, and learning every day,
Katrina
