Chilean Miners - An Analogy to Life
Living here in Provo and going to BYU it is easy to get stuck in the BYU bubble and not know what is going on in the outside world. Last night my institute teacher made me aware of the miners in Chile. 69 days ago the mine collapsed while they were inside. Yesterday they were finally rescued. We watched some footage in institute of one of the miners being brought to the surface and being reunited with their families. It was an amazing and spiritual thing to see! One of the miners said "while I was stuck down there I saw God and I saw the Devil, I took God's hand and I never looked back."
As I saw how happy the miners were to be reunited with their families after 69 days of being away from them, I thought of how great our reunion with our Father in Heaven and Savior will be one day, after being away from them for not only 69 days, but for our whole earthly probation. This experience will be made especially sweet if we take God's hand in this life and never look back.
What a blessing it is to be here on the Earth at this time! How grateful I am to be here and to have the experience of learning and growing and becoming more like my Father in Heaven. How grateful I am to witness the Lord's tender mercies in my life and how grateful I am for miracles an that they still occur. The rescue of those 33 miners truly was a miracle and trough television and Internet the world has been able to witness it. Among the countries that had live feed of the miners coming out of the mine were North Korea, Iran and China countries where media and what the people are able to see is closely monitored. What a miracle!
I have truly been touched by this experience as I believe many others have as well. It was once said by a leader of the church that Chili would be an example to the nations - in this experience they have been.
